A new mom takes care with every small and big thing related to her baby. She tries not to neglect anything when its for her baby but has any one thought about the most gifted toy to a baby???
That is teether...
Every child must be having many different types of teethers . But is it really safe for your baby, that is still a topic of discussion. The typical baby has a natural instinct to explore the world via her mouth, and that makes toys a common source of toxic exposures. Possible hazards include phthalates found in soft vinyl toys, lead in paints and plastics, and organotin compounds used in harder types of vinyl. One easy way to keep playtime safe is to avoid plastics.
In a first-of-its-kind study published by the American Chemical Society, researchers analyzed 59 baby teethers commonly sold in the United States, and found 100 percent of them contained Bisphenol A (BPA), Bisphenol S (BPS) or Bisephenol F (BPF), and most contained various parabens, as well as the antimicrobials triclosan and triclocarban. BPA, a chemical found in plastic packaging, has been linked to obesity, cancer and childhood anxiety and hyperactivity and has been found to mimic estrogen. BPS, a chemical that replaced BPA because experts believed it wouldn’t leak into drinks as much as BPA did— which later was proven wrong— has been found to cause developmental issues in fish embryos. BPF is another replacement for BPA.“These alternatives [to BPA] are equally toxic, or in some cases, more toxic,” study author Kurunthachalam Kannan, York State Department of Health, told FoxNews.com. Parabens are commonly used a research scientist at the News a preservative in teethers that are water- or gel-filled to prevent the likely growth of microorganisms. Triclosan and triclocarban are two of the most common ingredients found in antibacterial hand and body wash. In September, the FDA banned some of these antibacterial products because they could cause long-term harm, such as bacterial resistance or hormonal effects.
Better options include unpainted wood toys or some cloth and plush toys. Remember that sometimes the best teethers and toys are everyday household items. A carrot or a cucumber or any hard edible thing is an easy teether. babies love playing with food storage containers, wooden spoons, and pots and pans.
